Colorado Legal Services is a large non-profit that offers legal advice to Coloradoans who need it. It serves as a resource in tough times and is making a change in its community. Unfortunately, its website did not help it serve Colorado. The outdated layout and interface made it clunky and challenging for the public to find the information they desperately needed.

Before
What Was Colorado Legal Services Looking For?
Before coming to us, Colorado Legal Services’ website was struggling. Some blogs and pages were mildly successful and ranked well on search engines, but the overall layout and design were dated and difficult to navigate.
Their most significant issue was that their old website wasn’t able to reach out to all Coloradans. Their existing website was only in English, meaning over 10% of Colorado’s population would have difficulties reading it.
They also wanted to improve the functionality of their website. The site wasn’t providing its community the support and resources it could. They wanted to update the layout and branding of the site to provide their underprivileged and under-represented clients with a website they could easily use.
Our Plan to Help Reach Their Goals
After listening to Colorado Legal Services, we created a plan of attack that would help them reach their goals while also providing them with the digital support they needed to help more Coloradans. Our strategy included:
Updating Website Structure and Layout
The website’s structure and layout are the foundation for all other changes, so we had to address those first. We created a more manageable and user-friendly interface and even built a “Quick Exit” button on every page. This button allows victims of domestic violence to exit the page quickly and helps protect them from an abuser who might be looking over their shoulder or seeing what they are reading.
Making Existing Content and Resources More Accessible
The most significant accessibility improvement was providing the entire website in English and Spanish. Because they provide legal support and advice, it was essential to ensure that the translations were accurate and reliable. We did this by partnering with a translation company that helped us ensure the information was the same in both languages.
Improve Site Design and User Experience
We overhauled the website’s layout and design to make it more accessible and usable. We focused on creating a streamlined user interface that made it easy for Coloradans to find the information they needed. To help create a cohesive visual design while empowering the local Coloradan art community, we integrated the artwork of a local artist, Charlo, throughout the website.
The Results
Before working with us, Colorado Legal Services was an established leader and community member in Colorado. By building pages specific to the areas they serve, we helped improve their brand name and recognition.
Because of their market leadership, user engagement and interaction were key metrics we used to measure our success. This helped us determine how long new users stayed on the site and received the help they needed. The initial results show that users are spending more time on the website and viewing more pages than they did before.
Before working with us, Colorado Legal Services was an established leader and community member in Colorado, but its digital presence wasn’t as strong as it could have been. At its lowest, it was recognized for only about 8,800 keywords, with 950 of them in the top 20 search results. We improved its website’s SEO to help improve this ranking. In a few months, we helped it become recognized for 18,000 keywords and improved its top 20 rankings to 1,560.
These rankings helped improve their visibility and brand recognition online, which improved organic traffic rates.
